I have never seen any shepherds or sheep in my neighborhood in Japan.
But in the days of the Bible, they were very much part of life.
A story about a shepherd and his sheep would not be unusual at all,
AND
it would be very easy for the average person to understand.

now!!

全くありません！ 
けれども、
聖書の時代には
今と違って
羊の話は
珍しくなかったし、
とても
わかりやすかったでしょう。
「イエス様はどんな人ですか？」というテーマの続きですが、
『わたしは良い羊飼いです。』
とイエス様が言われました。
？？？？と思うかもしれませんね。
『良い羊飼いは、
羊（私たち人間という意味ですが）
私たちのために
自分の命を捨てます。』
と言われました。

In the New Testament book of John, chapter 10 verse 11,
He says...
"I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
『どんな人であろうと、
わたしから命を奪い取ること
のできる人はいません。
わたしは
自分の意志で 
命を捨てます。』ヨハネ１０：１８
Jesus also said...
No one takes my life from me,
but I lay it down on my own accord...
John 10:18 (New Testament)
この話はクリスマスに始まりました。
This all began with Jesus birth.
『わたし（イエス様）の羊は
わたしの声を聞き分けます。
また、わたしは彼らを知っています。
ですから
彼らはわたしに付いて来ます。
わたしは彼らを
永遠の救い（永遠の天国のこと）に入れますから、
決して滅びることがありません。。。』ヨハネ１０：２７、２８
良い羊飼いと羊はすごく親しい関係を持っていますね。
Jesus also said
"My sheep (the people who follow me) listen to my voice;
I know them and they follow me.
I will give them eternal life (in heaven after our earthly bodies die)
and they (their souls) will never perish."
John 10:27-28
The Good Shepherd and the sheep have a very close relationship...
Just as Jesus wants to have with us.
最後にヨハネ１０：１１をもう一回読んでみましょう。
「イエス様は良い羊飼いです。
良い羊飼いは
（自分の名前をここに入れて）のために
自分の命を十字架で捨ててくれました。」
最後の部分は特に大切です。
あなたの為に。。。
ヒロコ、ユミコ、サチ、コウジロウ、ケンタ、ソウタ。。。等
あなたの名前を入れて、この聖書の箇所を読んでみてください。
Let's read John 10:11 again in a slightly different way.
Jesus said -
I am the good shepherd.
As a good shepherd
I lay down my life (on the cross)
for YOU!
(Instead of YOU, please read this with your own name.)
This last line is VERY important.
I lay down my life FOR YOU...
