「The Dream of Lafcadio Hearn」 by Roger Pulvers

What was the nature of this man, born wanderer, informant of the fiendish details of Japanese lore,,,,a man who chose to live his life 'in defiance of the season'? 独り咲く。

Is Roger Pulvers, a gifted observer-writer, questioning the intergrity of this man, Michihiro Matsumoto, way over his midlife crisis.

I heard a lecture by ROGER PULVERS, humorously and vividly told.

After the speech, I grabbed themicrophone and asked:

Hearn's translation of 日本の心 was the heart of Japan, or not the soul or spirit of Japan. His translation of Natsume Soseki's KOKORO was just KOKORO. Assuming there are no cultural parallel for the KOKORO of Japanese and ethos of our culture, their translation's as good as it gets.

What is YOUR translation and why?

He said, 参ったな(you got me.) and laughed.
