先週末は気仙沼で、
S×T×U(SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND)のライブとボランティア活動に参加させていただきました。
Last weekend we had the opportunity to attend the live concert and volunteer activities of S × T × U (SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND) in Kesennuma.

ものすごい盛り上がり！！！
The concert had a great finish.
ライブ後も飲み会は深夜まで続きました。
The live performance lasted until midnight and was followed by a drinking party.
そして翌日のボランティア活動スタート。
The following day we started the volunteer activities.
３年間手付かずだった田畑は、行政から津波が来ていないと判断されたことにより市の事業から外れてしまい、今回初めてボランティアの手が入ることになったそうです。
For 3 years Tahata (Tanbo to Hatake, the rice field and farm) was left untouched. The area differs from other city businesses in that it was classified as not being struck by the tsunami by the government, but it actually was. This volunteer event was the first time people would be working on the field (since the tsunami).
３年以上も放置された田畑で黙々と草を刈っては運んでいきます。
For over 3 years no one cut the grass, and the grass became extremely tall and needed to be cut.
人並み以上にパワフルなS×T×Uメンバーの手によって、人の背丈を越える草むらもどんどん片付いていきます。
The powerful members of S × T × U cut the tall grass and quickly made the area suitable for use again.
そしてお昼ご飯は、隔月で炊き出しに来てくださっているラーメン屋さん。
After this, we had a lunch from a mobile ramen shop. They do this soup kitchen every other month for the volunteers.
It was very delicious ramen! It really warmed up our bodies and hearts.
そしてお昼の後も作業は黙々と続きましたが、どんどん拓けていく土地を見るとなんだか気持ちいいですね。
After lunch, we returned to work. Seeing how quickly the land was fixed up really created a good feeling.
S×T×Uは、ハーレー・バイカーのカリスマ的ロックンロール・バンド、HASH BALLのリーダー成田さんを中心としたボランティアチームで、成田さん自身やHASH BALLのメンバーが仙台出身ということもあり、震災直後、全国から集めた救援物資を避難所だけでなく、ライフラインの途切れた一軒一軒、物資の届かない避難所などを回って届けたそうです。
S × T × U was formed by Mr. Narita, a Harley biker and charismatic leader of a rock 'n' roll band called Hash Ball. They are a volunteer team. Mr. Narita and the Hash Ball members are originally from Sendai. Immediately after the earthquake they gathered relief supplies from all over the country and delivered them to the refuge centers. They went from one refuge to the next, establishing a lifeline that had been cut (by the tsunami). They focused on delivering goods to the shelters that were out of reach and neglected.
そんな成田さんの呼びかけに、次々と全国から物資が集められ、その活動に同行し、今もたくさんの仲間が仲間を呼び、この活動がおこなわれています。
Narita-san called to collect goods from all over the country. He called for friends and others to accompany him on volunteer activities, which they continue to do today.
毎月、月末の週末に、宮城から岩手の三陸海岸中心に活動しています。
Once a month, on the last weekend of the month, the group is active on the Sanriku coast area of Iwate and Miyagi prefectures.
今回、S×T×Uのボランティア活動に初めて参加させていただきましたが、皆さんとても温かい方たちばかりで、本当に楽しく、気持ち良く、かけがえのない時間を過ごすことができました。
This time we were allowed to participate with S × T × U in their volunteer activities. They are all very warm people, really fun, and comfortable to be with. We were able to have an incredible time.
