東日本大震災から３年半
On March 11th, 2011 over 15,000 people perished in the Great East Japan Earthquake.
避難先で暮らす被災者は、岩手県、宮城県、福島県の３県を中心に全国で２４万５６２２人、この１年で４万４０００人近く減ったものの、住宅再建も難しく、東北だけでも１９万６４３４人が未だに避難生活を送っています。
245,622 people from the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima were displaced around the country. This number has fell by only about 44,000 over the past year. Housing reconstruction is difficult, and victims continue living in evacuation sites. 196,434 people continue to live in temporary housing.
被災規模の大きかった岩手県、宮城県、福島県の３県では、未だ２５００人以上が行方不明のままとなっています。
The extent of the disaster was greatest in the three prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima. 2,500 people still remain missing.
避難先などで亡くなる「関連死」も３県で３０００人以上を越えるなど、震災の被害は今も終わってはいません。
The damage that the earthquake caused has not ceased. There have been over 3,000 evacuation-related deaths in the 3 prefectures.
These evacuation-related deaths are often a result of not receiving sufficient treatment for chronic diseases, as well as those who commit suicide as a result of psychological difficulties. The stress related to living in temporary housing and evacuation life is prolonged. It can have an adverse effect on the mind and body, especially for the elderly who are often involved.
The search for the unknown (missing) persons is still not finished, but the discovery of clues has become difficult with the passage of time.

The National Police Agency announced the following number of 3/11 earthquake deaths and still missing
宮城 ９５３８人（１２６１人）
全国 １５８８９人（２６０１人）
震災からちょうど３年半の９月１１日に、宮城県石巻市では、記録的な大雨による冠水被害や土砂災害などが発生し、住民などが復旧作業に追われました。
On September 11th, 2014, exactly three and a half years after the earthquake, Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, suffered landslides and damage caused by the worst floods since the disaster. Residents were once again tasked with recovery work.
Volunteers and support groups came to the houses that were damaged from the floods to help remove the debris and mud.

東北地方以外の場所では、東日本大震災について忘れられていっている方も多くなってきていると思いますが、今もプレハブ仮設で暮らす住民や、仮設校舎で勉強をしている子どもたちがたくさんいます。
People outside of Tohoku often forget the disaster that took place in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Many residents continue living in temporary housing and students continue studying in temporary schools.
どうかこの日を、日本中の人があらためて振り返り、自分ができることを実行したり、今後の備えにつなげていってほしいです。
We hope that people will not forget, that they can learn from what happened, and they can be more prepared in the future.
